Pierre Joppen is the founder of Paulus Swaen Old Maps & Prints and started selling old maps and prints in 1978 in the Netherlands. When Paulus Swaen started with fully online auctions in 1998 we were the only auction house specializing in old maps and prints doing so.
What is new in 2025
A lot has changed on the web in the last 28 years since we started our first online auction. With the arrival of the metaverse and web3, we think we are at a crossroads with new opportunities to sell our maps and connect with collectors and map lovers.
In 2024, we decided to say goodbye to the auction format; from now, you can buy items in our BuyNow catalog. Items are immediately available and no commission is charged.
The Map Bar
Take a break and pop in at The Map Bar, the metaverse meeting point, with plenty of antique maps on the wall. Each Tuesday 1.00 PM EST (7.00 PM Amsterdam) you meet and speak with other collectors or you will have a chat with a stranger about other things in life.
